We are thrilled to announce Seasoning The North Side Melting Pot, a collaborative summer 2017 project.
This collaboration came about from discussions among the six farmers operating Foraged & Sown, Cooke Forest Edibles And Medicinals, and Peace, Love and Freedom Urban Farm. Our farms are all located within a mile from each other in the 43224 zip code in the Baby Farms / North Linden neighborhoods.
We share a mission to produce organically-grown fruits and vegetables for our community in a way that is sustainable for the environment and our families. Each farmer is making a conscious choice to live and work simply so we can enjoy our lives and beautify our little places on Earth.
Our North Side farms already share many resources including seed orders, tools, land, and staff. We gather after markets, during work days, and around campfires to share our challenges and collaborate toward greater success.
The Seasoning The Melting Pot project was created to expand our capacity to grow and deliver food by four means: through improvements to our season extension practices including high tunnels, by acquiring a walk behind tractor and trailer for shared use, through replanting of fruit tree and berries with protection from deer and birds, and with farm stand and education experiences.
The participation of our community is critical to the success of this project. That's why the partner farms are inviting you to our pop-up farm stands with 'Pay What You Can' produce offerings. Each event will include pay-what-you-can produce, samples, a tour, and gardening advice from the farmers. All are welcome, no admission or reservations required! Join us:
We envision a North Side dotted with sustainable food production spaces reflective of the vibrant residents here and we're grateful for the support of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in bringing our ideas to fruition.
